Dr. Gavin Setzen obtained his medical degree in Johannesburg, South Africa. After spending 2½ years in general surgery at North Shore University Hospital, Cornell University Medical College, he completed a five-year residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Albany Medical Center.

Dr. Setzen practices the comprehensive care of adult and pediatric disorders of the head and neck with special interest in allergy diagnosis and immunotherapy, rhinology, sinus and nasal surgery and endocrine surgery. Dr. Setzen is a Diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. He is active in resident teaching, clinical research and various local and national organizations including the Board of Governors of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and the New York State Society of Otolaryngology.

Dr. Lawrence Kaufman received his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Rochester, Rochester New York, where he was an honors graduate. After gaining early acceptance to medical school, Dr. Kaufman continued his education in Rochester at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree. Dr. Kaufman went on to complete a five-year residency training program at Albany Medical Center in the specialty of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

During his training, Dr. Kaufman performed all aspects of surgery involving the head and neck for both pediatric and adult patients. Dr. Kaufman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. He is Chief of Otolaryngology at Albany Memorial Hospital.

Siobhan Kuhar, MD, DABSM, PhD, FACS, FAAOA

Dr. Siobhan Kuhar received her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Vermont. Prior to pursuing her medical studies she obtained a doctorate in Microbiology and Immunology and then completed a research fellowship at Rockefeller University. Dr. Kuhar continued her education at Albany Medical College where she received her medical degree and completed a five-year residency training program at the Albany Medical Center in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

During her training, Dr. Kuhar performed all aspects of otolaryngology including the treatment of pediatric-specific ear nose and throat problems, sinus surgery, sleep apnea surgery, head and neck surgery, voice evaluation and treatment of ear related problems including hearing loss and vertigo. Dr. Kuhar has completed a fellowship in sleep medicine and has attained subspecialty certification in sleep medicine. Dr. Kuhar is a Diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.

Michael Byrd, MD

Dr. Michael Byrd received his Bachelor of Science degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He then obtained his Master’s of Art degree in secondary science education from Columbia University. While at Columbia, he met his wife. After completing his Master’s degree, he took a job teaching seventh grade environmental science in Fairfax County, Virginia for two years. Dr. Byrd obtained his medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. He completed a six-year residency training program in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

He practices comprehensive care of both adult and pediatric problems with a special interest in rhinology, allergy, endoscopic laryngeal surgery and transphenoidal approach for hypophesectomy. Dr. Byrd is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology. He is also active in resident teaching.

Donna Silvernail graduated from the Albany-Hudson Valley Physician Assistant Program with honors in August 2001. Her training rotations included Pediatrics & Family Medicine, General Surgery & Emergency medicine as well as Neurology & Orthopedics.

Since graduation, Donna has specialized in the areas of surgery and orthopedics. In addition, throughout her career Donna has been involved with the development of patient treatment protocols as well as Patient Education Programs. Donna is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Earlier in her career, Donna also trained as a physical therapist assistant graduating from Maria College of Albany.

Maggie West-Bump received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Siena College. She graduated from the Albany Medical/Hudson Valley Physician Assistant program in 2001.

Since graduation she has had extensive experience with Family Practice and Cardiology. Maggie has lectured as adjunct faculty at Hudson Valley Community College for the Paramedic Program. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and is a member of the Amercian Association of Physician Assistants and the New York State Society of Physician Assistants.

Susan is a speech and language pathologist on staff at Albany ENT & Allergy Services. She specializes in the treatment of vocal cord disorders and voice rehabilitation for voice professionals. Susan is also a certified clinician of the Lee Silverman Voice Therapy Program, an intensive vocal rehabilitation program for patients with Parkinson's disease.

She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1981 and her Masters in Science Degree in Communications Disorders in 1984 from the Pennsylvania State University. She completed an internship at the Long Beach Veterans Administration Medical Center and her Clinical Fellowship Year at White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. Susan has worked as a speech pathologist, specializing in voice and swallowing disorders at local hospitals and rehabilitation centers since 1985. She has a NYS License, a certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a member of both the NYS and Capital District Speech-Language-Hearing Associations.

Jude manages the CT Department. She received her American Registry of Radiologic Technology Certificate in Mammography in 1997 and Computed Axial Tomography in 1999. She supervised the Breast Center at Albany Medical Center prior to joining Albany ENT & Allergy in 1999.

Dr. Perretta is the Manager of the Hearing Center at Albany ENT & Allergy Services. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Disorders in 1997 from SUNY Plattsburgh and her Master’s Degree in Audiology in 2001 from SUNY New Paltz. Marcia completed her Clinical Fellowship year at the Madison Hearing Center. In 2004 she received her Doctorate in Audiology from the University of Florida. She is a member of the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.

Erin is a staff audiologist in the Hearing Center of Albany ENT & Allergy Services. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Pathology in 2001 from Ithaca College and her Master’s Degree in Audiology in 2003 from Indiana University-Bloomington. She completed her clinical fellowship year at Clifton Springs Hearing Center in Clifton Springs, NY. She began work on her doctorate in Audiology in the fall of 2006. She is a member of the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech Language and Hearing Association.

Julie manages the Allergy Department and has been with Albany ENT since January 1987. She is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.

She graduated from Maria College and began her career at St. Clare’s Hospital followed by St. Peter’s Hospital prior to joining the Albany ENT & Allergy staff.
