How do I prepare for a CT Scan?

To prepare for your CT Scan, you may be asked to make some changes in your diet. For some types of CT scans you will be asked to drink "contrast" prior to the start of the exam. This is a special "dye" that enhances the images being taken.

If you are given any special preparation instructions, please be sure to follow these so that your scan can proceed as scheduled.

Please be sure to let the CT technologist know if you have any allergies, kidney problems, diabetic medications you may be taking or if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant as well as anything you ate or drank earlier on the day of your test.

You may be asked to wear a hospital gown. You may also be given contrast through an intravenous (IV) line or by injection. The contrast may make you feel warm or give you a strange taste in your mouth though it shouldn't last for long.
